How Chichester and Bognor Regis's councils license dog boarders
Every one of the twelve dog boarding kennels, home boarders and day cares listed for Chichester and Bognor Regis needs a council licence to operate: it is a legal requirement in England, not something a business can opt out of. This page's six areas cross the boundaries of three different councils, and the register format is different for each.
Chichester District Council
Nine listed businesses fall under Chichester District Council: Amberley Kennels, Doggie TLC, Tharfield Pet Boarding, Dog Dotty and Kate's K9 Companions in Chichester itself; Chichester Dog Sitters, Lisa's Dog Boarding and Walking and Sussex Petsitters in Selsey & the Witterings; and Dog Vision in Midhurst & Petworth. Seven of the nine are matched to a current entry on the council's own register, checked through a third-party mirror rather than the council's own site. This site only shows a council star rating where the council itself, not a mirror, has been checked directly, so none of the seven carry one here, whatever a business's own site or the mirror might otherwise display. The other two, Lisa's Dog Boarding and Walking and Sussex Petsitters, each state they are licensed but could not be matched to a specific register entry during this research.
Arun District Council
Two listed businesses — Carleton Canine Centre in Arundel and Muttlyns in Bognor Regis — are licensed by Arun District Council. Both are matched to a current register entry, again read from a third-party mirror rather than the council's own site, so, as with Chichester's licensees, no star rating is shown for either here.
East Hampshire District Council: no public register
Allywags Pet Services, in Petersfield & Liss, falls under East Hampshire District Council, which does not publish its animal-licence register online at all; it is available only by contacting the council's environmental health team directly. This is a genuinely different situation from a business simply not appearing on a public list: there is no public register to check against for this council, so Allywags Pet Services' licence status could not be confirmed either way during this research. Ask the business directly to see its current licence certificate.
What a council licence rating would mean, where one exists
Where this site does show a council licence rating, it is the council's own inspection score for the premises, not a customer review, and it is worth reading the way you would a food hygiene rating rather than a Google star. None of Chichester and Bognor Regis's twelve listed businesses currently carry one here, for the reasons set out above.
Why no licence carries a star here
England's licensing regulations do give every boarding, home boarding and day-care licence a 1-to-5 star rating from a risk-based inspection, and the mirror register used to check Chichester and Arun's licensees in this research does display a star figure for some of them. This site only publishes that figure where it has been checked directly against the council's own register rather than a third-party mirror, because a mirror can lag behind a renewal or a re-inspection, and neither Chichester District Council's nor Arun District Council's own register was reachable directly this round. So no business licensed by either council appears with a star rating here, and East Hampshire's home boarder has no register to check against at all.
